Entrance to Marlow bridge from the north side.

Reported anonymously at 16:18, Thu 3 March 2022

No lighting on the pavement at the lhs entrance to the bridge from the town side. Pavement narrows to single file but this can’t be seen. Pls see my letter to Clerk below: I was visiting Marlow last Friday 25th March when I suffered an unfortunate (but what I believe was an avoidable) fall in the early evening. I was coming from the town side of the river bridge towards the The Compleat Angler for dinner and was walking across the bridge alongside my husband when I suddenly found myself lying on my back on the pavement, with my husband on top of me. The pavement had narrowed so that there was only room for one person to walk in single file, but I had not realised this as there was no light on that side of the bridge due to ongoing repairs. I landed on a metal strip on the edge of the narrowing kerb, ripping my tights, dirtying my coat and skirt and hurting my shin, thigh and back quite badly. I was very shaken up and the following day I was in a lot of pain and there was severe bruising on various parts of my body (see attached photo of the bruise on my thigh). I strongly believe that the Council should ensure that the bridge has lighting which is fit for purpose (which it wasn’t) and feel that I should receive some recompense for the pain I have suffered and the damage caused to my clothing. The fall obviously spoilt my entire evening. Once I had picked myself up and was continuing across the bridge, I spoke to a lady behind me who also said that she had nearly fallen over at the entrance to the bridge, where the pavement narrowed and I had fallen. The complete lack of lighting is clearly a health and safety issue. I do not want to take this to court, but would like you to: 1. Rectify the problem (so nobody else suffers the same fate) and inform me of the action you have taken. 2. Consider sending me an ex gratia payment of £200 to recompense me for the pain I suffered and the damage caused to my clothing. Thank you.
