Area around drain outside 129 High Street North, Stewkley - issue is POOR REPAIR CREATING DAMAGE TO COTTAGE
Reported in the Flooded subway category anonymously at 14:38, Wed 27 November 2019
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1864921.
We live in Stewkley and have done so since October 1994. 129 High Street North to be precise. During that time we have seen erratic periodic random repair work (by the local authority) to the road surface around the the drain outside our property. The resultant tarmac patchwork gives poor drainage. Meaning water rests on the road surface until a vehicle passes and kicks up the water to the front facade of our 200 year old cottage. And then the next vehicle and then the next. Until our exterior paintwork and windows are covered with muck. This is unacceptable. Our cottage, which incidentally lies in a Conservation Area, has benefitted by our careful maintenance. After moving in 25 years ago we had bespoke wooden double glazed windows fitted to both Georgian bay windows. These windows should have lasted at least two decades. Not so. These windows rotted prematurely due to damage caused by the road water being thrown up at our cottage because of poor tarmac repairs by local authority. Again further expense, these bespoke wooden windows have now been replaced by UPVC windows. In order to protect our cottage from the elements, this year we paid many thousands and thousands of pounds, for a special coating to be applied on the cottage exterior. We also spent hundreds of pounds on greenery to effectively try to create a shield between the road and cottage. As you can clearly see from the attached images the Georgian bay window nearest the drain is absolutely filthy, as is the exterior paintwork around the window, whilst the bay window further away is clean. We have asked you, the local authority, on many previous occasions for this issue to be addressed correctly. WHEN IS THIS (MEANING PROPER REPAIRS) GOING TO HAPPEN? THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OMNIPRESENT FOR TWENTY FIVE YEARS - 25 YEARS.
