Drainage discharge from 7A Church Street into the highway
When 7A was built some 20 or more years ago the Builder found a surface water drainage pipe which he diverted away from the new house and directed it as shown purple on the plan.
I do not think there was any knowledge at the time of the piped highway ditch along Church Street Shown blue and the diverted surface water pipe is not connected to the piped highway ditch but discharges its water into the road formation.
On occasions the water emanates at the surface as can be seen in the photographs but generally discharge into the road formation with the result that in the winter the road pavement is saturated and in Frost Conditions the saturated road pavement freezers breaks up and creates potholess in the carriageway as indicated on the plan.
The remedy is to connect the offending drain into the highway verge drain. The depression in the line of granite setts in the drive to 7A indicates the location of the offending drain.
